The highlight of this past weekend was the women’s retreat. Fifty or so women from San Gabriel joined 500 women from other churches to listen to speaker Susan Hunt, who is involved in the Counsel for Biblical Manhood and Womanhood.
We all learned so much about our creation design as women. We glorify God by fulfilling the role of “helper” that He gave us from the beginning. Susan Hunt presented a very balanced view of this role, that it is equal in value with that of men but distinct in function. Just as the pillars of a building give support and beauty to the whole structure, so we as women give support to the church leadership and (if we are married) in the marriage relationship.
I was excited to hear not only about our creation design as helpers, but also about our redemptive calling as “life-givers.” God has shown us grace by giving us a redemptive role as life-givers. In fact, in every moment of our day, Susan Hunt explained that we are either giving life or taking life, nurturing or destroying. We glorify God when we selflessly give of ourselves to others and to God.
