For the Glory of God: A Biblical Theology of Worship

That is the title of the class we are taking and my oh my, what a class! The subject matter is awe inspiring and the professor is splendid. Daniel Block is a wonderful teacher for several reasons:

1) He has an encyclopedic knowledge of worship in the Old and New Testament 2) He answers questions by pointing to pertinent passages in Scripture and 3) He teaches like a pastor. I have felt ministered to in every class session.

He has given us a “working definition” of worship. Dr. Block defines worship as, “True worship involves reverential human acts of submission and homage before the divine Sovereign, in response to his gracious revelation of himself, and in accordance with his will.”

The emphasis is on worship as a response to God’s revelation of himself. Worship does not start with man. It does not end with man. In fact it has very little to do with man. God is the object and the subject of worship. It is given to him and it is concerned with him.
